Starring: Sumanth, Kruthi, Tanikella Bharanai, Jayaprakash Reddy and others

Director: Raj Pippalla

Music: Ramana Gogula

Release date: 12 June, 2009

The film Boni is about a small time gangster who is good natured at heart. He kidnaps a girl as directed by the gang leader but along the way falls in love with the same girl. What happens next is the story.

Story:

DD@Devi (Sumanth) is an orphan. He along with his close friend Chinna work for a small time gang leader Giri (Tanikella Bharani). DD and Chinna’s ambition in life is to save enough money and set up a Tamarind Rice center. This is the dream of their caretaker Sudha at the orphanage at which they grow up.

They save money and keep it in the house of a girl. Just when then think that they have saved enough to start a tamarind rice centre, the girl runs away with the money.

DD and Chinna are shocked but they pick up courage and this time plan to make money even faster. With the help of their boss they land a job with a bigger gangster Dasanna (Jayaprakash Reddy). They are assigned the job of kidnapping a girl Pragathi (Kruthi) the daughter of a minister (Ahuthi Prasad). They kidnap the girl all right but she behaves strangely and instead of resisting the kidnappers, she actually cooperates wit them.

Pragathi is a kind hearted soul who runs an NGO. She wants to rescue villagers whose lands are about to be grabbed by money lender. She needs 4 crores so that she can pay off the money lender and get the lands back to the poor villagers. As her father cheats Pragathi by not helping the poor villagers as promised, she plans a kidnap drama with the help of a friend who is the wife of a cop.

Dasanna has planned the kidnap and he is after DD. On the other hand DD afterlearning about the intentions of Pragathi is now determined to save her from Dasanna’s evil designs. Above all, there is another big villain who is out to kill Pragathi. Who is this villain and why is he after Pragathi’s life? Answers to these questions can be found on the screen.

Performance:

The film is a Sumanth show all the way.  Sumanth also plays s soft character and he is seen smiling for most part of the film. He does a neat job and he unveils a new side to his personality. Newcomer Kruthi looks cute but has not managed to impress in the acting department. Tanikella Bharani and Jayaprakash Reddy play gangsters but they are more comical than the deadly riwdies that they are supposed to be.

Ahuthi Prasad, Chandramohan, Harshavardhan, Subhashiini and Sudha play largely guest roles. Naresh and Satyam Rajesh try to raise some laughs as bumbling cops.

The music by Ramana Gogula is okay. Newcomer Raj Pippalla manages to come up with a decent fare in his maiden effort. The film is a lighthearted entertainer.

There are no big fights and heavy sentiment.

Boni is an average film that can be watched once.
