Punnaminagu

Starring: Mumaith Khan, Rajiv Kanakala, Nalini and others

Direction: Kodandarami Reddy

Music: SA Rajkumar

Release date: 10 April 2009

The film Punnaminagu was released amidst high expectations as it is coming from veteran director Kodandarami Reddy. The film also has Mumaith Khan in the title role and the film makers also promised some high end graphics. But the weak storyline and weaker screenplay turn the film into a poor entertainer.

Story:

There is not much of a story. The rueler of Nagalokam learns that the world is going to come to end an end in 25 years as people are committing untold crimes including destroying natural resources.  He sends a snake couple to earth to save man king from destruction. The Nagin is none other than Mumaith Khan.

An evil gang which is involved in drugs and other illegal activities offends Nagins by killing snakes and selling snake skin and venom etc. An evil sorceress Nalini wants to get hold of the two ‘Nagamanis’ as they will give her unlimited power. She tries to capture the two snakes but her followers kill one of the snakes by hitting it with stones.

The other Nagin escapes but will not rest until it takes revenge. Mumaith is the daughter of police officer Nilagal Ravi. The gangsters kill her father and they are after the Mumaith Khan as she is the chosen one. They implant the’Nagamani’ in Mumaith Khan’s thigh. She gets the power of a Nagin as a result.

The rest of the story is how Mumaith Khan takes revenge on the killers of her father and also stop Nalini from executing her evil designs.

Performance:

The film revolves around Mumaith Khan. She is the main draw for the film for her hot looks and sex appeal. Mumaith does not disappoint her fans and wears abikni and also many revealing outfits. She also dances and takes part in a couple of fights too.

Rajiv Kanakala plays second fiddle to Mumaith and he has nothing much to do. Nalini is impressive as the sorceress. Nilagal Ravi is okay. The rest have very little to do. The graphics are nothing much to boast of.

The audience enjoyed to some extent the remix song from Chiranjeevi’s ‘Khaidi’ – Raguluthondi Mogalipodha… and Chiranjeevi appears briefly on the screen.

The film does not have a gripping narrative and the revenge motive is also not well established. As a result the film turns out to be a below average entertainer.
